Infection control

emergency dentist bendigo

We take the wellbeing and safety of our patients very seriously. We are proud to practice the very highest standards, adhering to all national guidelines for infection control set by Australian Dental Association. All our staff members are trained to the highest standard. We follow strict instrument sterilisation protocols and use the latest and best dental equipment available in the business today.

These Protocols include:

  • Class B digital Autoclaves – Autoclaves are by far the most effective way of killing germs.  After each patient is finished, all instruments are cleaned in ultrasonic first and then packaged into sterile pouches and vacuum sealed to prevent contamination. The instruments are then placed into a digital autoclave and autoclaved at very high temperatures.
  • Chemical Disinfection – All instruments that cannot be put into an autoclave e.g. plastic, as well as the dental chair and all work surfaces are fully disinfected between each patient using powerful chemicals which are designed to kill bacteria and viruses.
  • Barrier techniques –  All our dental personnel use disposable masks and gloves that are changed for each patient which are very effective in preventing the spread of bacteria. Barrier sheaths are used on areas likely to be contaminated and this is changed between each patient.
  • Protective Glasses  are worn by the dentist, nurse and patient at all times during procedures and Disposable bibs worn by patients.
  • Designated decontamination areas – All clinical staff are trained in the correct handling and disposal of needles and sharps. In addition all disposable materials are disposed in biohazardous containers
  • Strict hand washing protocols in place
  • Wherever possible disposable one time use only items are used
  • Waterline Disinfection:  The waterlines for each surgery are run everyday so as to flush contaminents out. Also, our surgeries use self-contained units so that sterile water is used and we treat the waterlines with an antibacterial solution. All healthcare waste is managed in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Health.
