Dentures Bendigo

Over the years, there have been commendable advancements being made in dentistry, and one of the most appreciated and demanded are dentures. A denture is a removable piece for missing teeth and their surrounding tissues. We at McCrae Dental Surgery believe that everyone deserves to love their smile and thus make tooth replacement affordable for all.

Our staff is always ready to help you get your smile back!

What Are Dentures?

A denture is a removable prosthetic that helps to replace your missing teeth. It can either be partial or full depending upon the individual needs. These are made in the laboratory using synthetic (porcelain or acrylic) teeth positioned on the surface. They imitate the lax tissues and the palate and fit right into your mouth. Thanks to advanced technology, these appear almost natural-looking. These can easily be removed for cleaning purposes.

Different types of dentures offered at our Bendigo clinics include…

Full dentures

A “full” denture is used when there are no natural teeth left. As well as just replacing the teeth, there is also gum-coloured acrylic that sits over the gums and holds the teeth in place. It also can replace some of the gum where the gum has shrunk. This helps build up a ‘fallen in’ appearance, by pushing out the lips and cheeks into their normal positions.

Partial dentures

These are dentures that replace some missing teeth, where you still have natural teeth. Partial dentures are usually held in place by small clips or clasps. These look like little bits of wire that wrap around a natural tooth, gripping it firmly.

Acrylic dentures

Light and affordable denture solution that looks great.

Chrome cobalt dentures

A frame can be made, and is much thinner and stronger than an acrylic denture base.

Implant-supported dentures

Which fit over the jaw bone and over the implants, and be held in place by the implants.

Valplast denture

Which is a flexible partial denture that can be done to replace single or multiple teeth. Valplast denture is lightweight and comfortable.

We hope this gives you some idea of the different designs that are available, depending on your individual circumstances.

How Do I Care For Dentures And My Mouth?

It is essential to keep your mouth and dentures clean and healthy. There are a few things you can do to ensure your mouth steers clear from all types of diseases:

  • Clean dentures twice – once in the morning and once before going to bed at night
  • Don’t sleep with your dentures on
  • When you take your dentures off, you give your mouth a chance to rest
  • You must thoroughly brush all parts of the denture to ensure all food particles are off
  • Make use of a brush and denture paste for any hard build-up
  • Don’t use toothpaste (it might be too hard for the dentures)
  • Rinse well with water and let it dry
